Ukraine is a country in flux due to rapid economic growth and societal change. Despite this change, Ukraine still retains connections to its past. This can be seen in both its daily landscapes but also in its people's ethos.
'Slave Ukraine' 2017 was initially intended to be a direct record of Ukraine through photography. A diary of people I met and places I went. However, through the selectivism of highly specific snapshots, the images have evolved from something objective into a curated secondary experience, that suggests an entirely different narrative. Converting these images from impartial documentation into a personalised interpretation of a foreign place. In which, revealing an environment where my personal projections of a place and the physical landscapes intersect, preventing a true representation of this place.
